The Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), through its Centre for Modern Languages and Faculty of Arts and Humanities, is offering free places on a Beginner Catalan (A1) online course for the OpenEU community, including students, teaching and research staff, and technical and management staff from partner universities.

Catalan is part of Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity. Through this initiative, the UOC aims to bring Catalan language and culture closer to OpenEU’s international university community, while promoting multilingualism and intercultural exchange in a flexible online learning environment. 

This four-month course is aimed at complete beginners or participants with very limited knowledge of Catalan. It will help learners develop the basic language skills needed to understand and use simple expressions in everyday situations.

The course is fully asynchronous and will be delivered through the UOC Virtual Campus, enabling participants to learn flexibly without compulsory live sessions. At the beginning of the course, instructions will be available in Catalan, Spanish and English. As the course progresses, Catalan will gradually become the main language used.
