The OpenEU Visiting teaching assignments mobility scheme for 2026/2027 is now open!
The OpenEU Alliance invites academic staff from partner institutions to apply for Visiting Teaching Assignments, promoting academic cooperation, knowledge exchange, and teaching excellence across the Alliance.
Visiting Teaching Assignments enable academic staff to undertake teaching activities at another OpenEU partner institution, contribute to curriculum enhancement, exchange innovative pedagogical practices, and strengthen sustainable interinstitutional cooperation. These mobilities also support the internationalisation of higher education and the development of a shared European Education environment.
In line with WP6 and the OpenEU Mobility Framework, Visiting Teaching Assignments contribute to an inclusive, accessible, seamless, and environmentally sustainable mobility ecosystem, fostering staff mobility and collaboration across the Alliance.
Purpose
The OpenEU Visiting Teaching Assignments scheme supports short-term teaching mobility among partner institutions. Through this scheme, OpenEU aims to:
Increase the number of teaching mobilities and academic exchanges across OpenEU partner institutions.
Promote the transfer of knowledge, expertise, and innovative pedagogical approaches among academic staff.
Strengthen interinstitutional cooperation through participation in joint teaching, academic, and networking activities.
Enhance students' learning experiences by providing access to international expertise, international learning opportunities, and diverse academic perspectives.
Contribute to high-quality, inclusive, accessible, and innovative education across the Alliance.
Teaching activities should contribute to sustainable collaboration between partner institutions and support the objectives of the OpenEU Mobility Framework and Erasmus+ staff mobility principles.
Eligibility
Academic staff employed by OpenEU partner institutions are eligible to apply for Visiting Teaching Assignments, subject to the eligibility and selection requirements specified by the host institution.
Where indicated by the host institution, applications from OpenEU Associated Partner institutions may also be considered, subject to institutional policy and available funding.
Applicants must:
Hold an academic position at an OpenEU partner institution.
Obtain approval from their home institution to undertake the teaching mobility.
Secure mobility funding, where applicable, prior to applying.

Step 2: Obtain internal approval and confirm funding
Before applying, applicants should obtain approval from their home institution and confirm, where applicable, the availability of mobility funding (e.g. Erasmus+ or institutional/national/EU/other funding). Applicants should also verify any internal procedures or deadlines that may apply.
Step 3: Contact the host institution
Contact the designated host institution representative to discuss:
the proposed teaching assignment;
mobility format, timing, and availability;
academic compatibility;
any additional institutional requirements; and
potential contributions to OpenEU joint educational activities, joint programmes, multilingual learning, or other alliance-wide initiatives.
Step 4: Submit the application
Submit the required application documents in accordance with the host institution's instructions, selection criteria and deadlines.
Step 5: Finalize mobility arrangements
Following approval, the sending and receiving institutions shall complete the required documentation, including the Mobility Agreement for Teaching (or equivalent institutional documentation).
Mobilities should be implemented in accordance with the OpenEU Mobility Framework and applicable quality assurance, recognition, and reporting requirements.
Step 6: Complete the teaching assignment and reporting
Following the completion of the mobility activity, participants shall fulfil all reporting obligations and submit any supporting documentation required by the sending institution, the host institution, and the OpenEU Alliance.
In addition, all participants are required to complete the OpenEU Visiting Teaching Assignments Academic Staff Evaluation & Impact Survey, contributing to the monitoring, evaluation, quality enhancement, and impact assessment of OpenEU activities.

Participation in the scheme does not entail direct financial support from OpenEU. Applicants should consult their sending and host institution regarding funding opportunities, eligibility conditions, and applicable procedures.
Duration
The duration and timing of each visiting teaching assignment mobility shall be agreed between the sending and receiving institutions, considering the objectives and type of the mobility, the proposed teaching activities, institutional availability, and applicable funding requirements, in accordance with the OpenEU Mobility Framework.
Visiting teaching activities
Visiting Teaching assignments may include lectures, seminars, workshops, guest teaching, student supervision, curriculum enhancement, and participation in academic exchange activities. Activities that support OpenEU joint educational initiatives, multilingual learning, innovative pedagogical approaches, digital education, and interinstitutional cooperation are particularly encouraged.
Documentation
Selected participants shall complete all required institutional and funding documentation prior to the mobility, including the Mobility Agreement for Teaching Assignment (or equivalent documentation required by the participating institutions).
Recognition and reporting
Upon completion of the mobility, the receiving institution shall provide confirmation of the teaching activities undertaken. Participation will also contribute to OpenEU mobility monitoring, reporting, and impact assessment activities.
Cancellation and changes
OpenEU reserves the right to modify, suspend, postpone, or cancel this Call, in whole or in part, at any stage and without prior notice, where justified by operational, financial, or other unforeseen circumstances.
