A participatory process is a sequence of participatory activities (e.g. first filling out a survey, then making proposals, discussing them in face-to-face or virtual meetings, and finally prioritizing them) with the aim of defining and making a decision on a specific topic.

Examples of participatory processes are: a process of electing committee members (where candidatures are first presented, then debated and finally a candidacy is chosen), participatory budgets (where proposals are made, valued economically and voted on with the money available), a strategic planning process, the collaborative drafting of a regulation or norm, the design of an urban space or the production of a public policy plan.

Organization description

Promoted by the Associação de Jovens Ecos Urbanos (Association of Young Urban Ecos) in partnership with various entities in the municipality, is a municipal volunteer structure that develops coordinated efforts to promote volunteering with a positive impact on the communities in the geographical area covered by the municipality. Its main objective is to promote and manage volunteering in the municipality, acting as a ‘meeting point’ between people interested in volunteering and organisations that promote volunteering. In addition to this synergy between organisations promoting volunteering and the community, BLVSJM also promotes Education for Volunteering in schools, through sessions with 9th and 10th grade students, where it explores the concept of volunteering and shares existing volunteering opportunities in the municipality.
